Femininity
I never understood what it meant to own my femininity. Yes, I’ve always loved being a female, dressing up, dancing, cooking, and other “feminine” activities. But this goes way deeper than gender – femininity represents women’s souls, personalities, and everything in between.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines femininity as “the quality or nature of the female sex,” which is pretty vague. After more research, I found that femininity is also a synonym to the following words: gentleness, sweetness, empathy, sensitivity, caring, compassion, and womanhood.
So I want to ask – do you embody your femininity, and what does it mean to you?
Coming Into Your Femininity
Femininity is completely individual to each woman – you have to learn, come into it, and know it for yourself. This type of reflection can be hard, like most reflections, sometimes because I know it was extremely hard for me to figure out. I had to learn, evolve, and grow for myself. I stepped outside of opinions and criticisms from others, including family, friends, co-workers, and complete strangers.
Stepping back and learning what you, and you alone, want and how you react in certain situations are important to owning your femininity. These revelations don’t always come right away. I’m finally starting to realize who I am, and turning 25 aided with that. Lessons + trials happen for us to realize what we exactly need and don’t need.
I learned this the hard way, pushed away what I needed to “fit in” with the norm, and didn’t want others to know there was something wrong with me because I’m highly more sensitive and sometimes can cry on the spot. Or that I wasn’t whole because I lacked certain qualities, like sensuality.
Be Your Confirmation
But that’s where the lies and false thinking came into play because I am whole. I learned the hard way that it’s okay to be sensitive. I looked for confirmation from others to believe how I should be. Now, I give myself that confirmation every day, or at least I try to.
- Show empathy and compassion. Each day brings a new story, and sometimes a new struggle – make sure you give compassion every day.
- Sensitivity is a strength. Be bold and show your vulnerability, when necessary.
- Embrace your womanhood daily. Tap into your thoughts and feelings + explore them.
Always give yourself the confirmation you deserve to walk in your own femininity, believe in yourself, your worth, and your journey.
