Sephora Beauty Insiders
Major makeup retailer, Sephora offers beauty classes and mini makeover throughout the year; makeovers happen everyday, but the beauty classes are rare. So I was thrilled to find a class that: 1. was available, 2. at a nearby mall, and 3. wasn’t happening on a Sunday morning, which cuts into church. The opportunity finally came today to attend my first Beauty Insider class, in which I learned how to apply false lashes.
This makeup step has always scared me. I don’t wear eyeliner. Eyelashes are only for special occasions because my eyes twitch so much. I just stayed away from it all. To get over it, I’ve had friends show me, watched YouTube videos, and even bought some Ardell lashes from Ulta hoping to get over this hurdle. I never seemed to get it. But that all changes today!
The false lash class was taught by Lucy, one of the Somerset Collection’s Sephora Beauty employee. The class included two other students. Tools and products were provided and sanitized for us. Lashes were available purchased as you can only use the Sephora branded lashes. I purchased the Sephora Collection Celebrity #23 lash – they are short, lightweight, natural, and full volume.
I learned a lot of things from the class. She provided a worksheet with steps and walked me through each one. The entire class was HANDS-ON, which I appreciated. I learn better when I actually do it and can ask for help when needed.
The Process
First
We started with tight lining the top lash line with black eyeliner to conceal any gaps before placing the lashes. I’ve always struggled
TIP: Lucy learned from an ophthalmologist “to open your mouth and place tongue on the roof to control your eyes from twitching.”
Second
We trimmed and curled lashes if needed. I didn’t need to trim my lashes as they fit perfectly on my eyes. I did curl my lashes to see what effect it would give.
TIP: Begin to trim from the outer corner to keep the shorter pieces needed in the inner eye.
Third
Next, we applied a thin layer of glue with the House of Lashes glue. Wait for it to become tacky before actually placing on the lash line. I struggled with this part like I always have. After 3-4 tries on each eye and a little help, I successfully placed the lashes where they needed to be. Then I adjusted them.
TIP: Make sure you have enough glue on the ends to stick to the lash line and not out. Also place lashes from middle to outer to inner, which helps with better placement for the lashes.
Lastly
We joined the false and real lashes together with mascara and applied eyeliner to cover the band from showing.
And that was it! While I could’ve learned all of this on YouTube for free and in the comfort of my own home, physically learning from a professional individual in person helped me drastically.
This simple application also taught me there is still so much information in the world that I don’t know. Not that I have to learn all of it, but I want to constantly find what I like and improve my current skills and build new ones.
Broaden Your Skills
Everything doesn’t have to make money. Do some things for the enjoyment and enhancing your mental, physical, and social skills. Makeup has always been something I’ve been interested in and is very fascinating. It can definitely be intimidating. I am going to keep learning and taking classes to keep pushing my makeup skills above and beyond.
Go for It!
If you are interested in enhancing your makeup, head over to Sephora and do a beauty makeover. They offer a lot of help and tips.
I’m forever learning to leave fear and being scared behind and follow what makes me happy.
