We get ideas. We marinate to see if they’re solid, brainstorm the outcome, then plan and strategize. Fruition and execution stages come next and that’s where the nervousness kicks in, but we do it anyway. Those notifications start rolling in one by one and for me, my initial reaction is usually a shocking one, pressed with fear and creeping negative emotions
Shake It Off + Do More
As rewarding as it, the thought of “doing more” scares me to pieces but I CANNOT let it stop me! These feelings stem from my personality type. I’ve never been a foreground person type of person. I’ve always been cool getting things done in the background, but still receiving some recognition. I am now, and still getting better, at promoting and standing for myself over waiting for it to come to me. I can do it all day for others, but struggle being “extra” for myself.
When I post on social media, I don’t expect too many responses. The moment it happened this week, I got overwhelmed, doubted my abilities, and hated the face that I have to “do more.” Which is still so strange because I want to do more. I get scared into the mindset that I’m not capable or I’ll fail. The moment I realized it, I knew I had to do more to combat this!
I know to move forward, change and evolution are inevitable and necessary. Staying stagnant doesn’t help dreams get fulfilled. With change, your dreams will and should scare you. That’s how I know what I am doing is in line with God’s purpose and my dreams.
Change is Good for the Soul
Life is all about moving forward, growing and evolving. Fear is something the Devil, our minds, and negative thoughts to make us feel like we aren’t capable of doing it all. But we are – I surprise myself every time when I conquer something I didn’t think I could. Not in awe of myself, but of the gifts and talents God has blessed me with.
We need to SHAKE IT OFF, then SHAKE IT UP. Push the limits. Work harder, but smarter. Authenticate yourself and live in it. With this post, I’m not just talking to you – I’m also talking to and reminding myself. We need to use our talents and skills to our FULL potentials and hold us each other accountable.
It’s not about me – it’s about bringing like-minded individuals together and making sure we build communities, look out for and genuinely support each other.
Here are my to-go’s and frequently mentioned ones:
Affirmations
This week, I added affirmations from Mel Chante’s article to my list – all of them are so useful and clear to implement.
Journaling
Every night, I write out the day’s thoughts and quotes from my daily Twitter screenshots.
Reading the Bible
I’ve been making more effort to read and study scriptures. There are books I’ve been making an effort to read and found an Instagram scripture challenge.
Favorites
- Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving (Colossians 4:2 KJV)
- Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:23)
Lighting Candles
Pretty much self-explanatory fruit (primarily, pineapple) and calming (eucalyptus) scents are my favorites. I’m currently burning Bath and Body Works’ Black Cherry Merlot.
Music
Even though I could always find pretty anything I wanted to hear, this new Apple Music subscription has been BOMB. My taste changes so much, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Miguel, Adrian Marcel, The Winans (ALWAYS), Frank Ocean and Trevor Jackson.
There will always be small issues we deal with internally, but that doesn’t have to be the final story! Sharing my story helps me to be vulnerable, help someone else, and grow along the way.

great post! I like when you said Staying stagnant doesn’t help dreams get fulfilled. That’s so true! I’m going through a period of change in my life right now and I have had those same feelings of fear, but know that I have to embrace change and overcome my fears to move forward in a positive way! Thank you for this!
