Moxie Friday
The Moxie Playbook’s mission is to encourage, inspire, and motivate young women who will soon graduate from high school + enter into college, or graduate from college + entering the real workforce. Readers should hope to find their uncomfortable place in a comfortable world where they are passionate about something.
Becoming too comfortable leads to
Therefore, I have decided to start featuring extraordinary women I see who are excelling in their fields, finding their passions + have a heart of moxie.
Erikka Yvonne
Erikka Simpson, professionally known as Erikka Yvonne, is the first of the #MoxieFriday mini-series features. As a Detroit, Michigan native who is briskly making a respectable name for herself as a young entrepreneur and world changer, Erikka has already discovered her calling and is working diligently to impact her generation at the young age of 23.
During her time spent as an undergrad at Grand Valley State University, Erikka discovered her passion for the creative world of Advertising + PR.
“The creative world gives me the opportunity to bring someone else’s vision to reality,” says Erikka in regards to her particular interest in branding, advertising, and public relations. “I like being able to take their ideas and turn them into something real.”
1. Tell us about yourself.
I am a recent graduate from Grand Valley State University, strutting in the world of entrepreneurship and fulfilling my purpose. I am 24 years old working full time as a Marketing Coordinator for a non-profit organization by day and at night; I’m designing, researching, or blogging. My favorite color is pink!
I live by the motto, live to inspire and inspire to live. “I believe in paying it forward. Mentoring and inspiring as many people as I can is my niche. It just comes naturally, so I feel it is my duty to help them understand that even a negative situation can be turned around to have a happy ending.”
With this mindset, I created Strut in Her Shoes.
“Overall, I aspire to be an inspiration. Live to inspire and inspire to live is my motto. I’m just doing my part.”
2. I love the name, Strut In HER Shoes, and tagline, Keep Struttin’. Where did the inspiration for this organization come from?
Thank you. I honestly cannot take credit for the name. After graduating, I told myself I wanted to blog; I wanted to inspire others by sharing my story, journey, and thoughts. On my way home one day, I was listening to some music, talking to God and he said, “Strut in HER Shoes”. I fell in love with the name. Keep Struttin’ is my way of saying Keep pushing.
3. What do you hope to accomplish with Strut In Her Shoes?
I want to encourage women of faith to share their stories and testimonies. Not only is a tactic of healing but a testament of just how good God is. By 2015, Strut in HER Shoes will not only be a blog, but it will be a foundation that hosts scholarships, counseling services and etc. So just stay tuned…
4. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style… Girly x Professional x Edgy! Lol
5. What is something you cannot leave the house without?
I cannot leave the house without my cell phone. Omg… I would go crazy without it.
Keeping up with Erikka
6. In such a fast past society, how do you stay current? Then, relax from the ripping + running?
I really don’t stay current lol. If it’s not on my Instagram timeline, I don’t know about it for a while. Especially with stuff like music and celebrity gossip. I’m always the last one to know something. LolI relax… by watching a movie (usually resulting in me falling asleep) and participating in my group messages with my friends. I cuddle up on the couch with my puppy, Levi too.
7. Our motto is encouraging our readers to find an uncomfortable place in a comfortable world; do you think you have found this place?
Love the motto. I would say so… growth and maturity is an uncomfortable space. You have to let go of things you are used to… let go of people who aren’t growing with you. I’m not comfortable with being complacent though… growth is a part of life. Being uncomfortable is how you grow.
8. How can others get involved with your amazing organization?
We are currently looking for blogging contributors and vloggers. Anyone interested should email strutinhershoes1@gmail.com with samples of their work.
For the month of August, we are hosting a Shoe Drive in the Metro Detroit Area… please please please donate shoes for local charities. We are accepting all styles for men, women and teen girls! If you are not in the Detroit Area and want to participate, email us and we let you know how to participate!
