When it comes to natural hair, there are tons of essentials; we're going to cover what, especially helps me, defines productive styles, such as twist + braid outs, wash n'go's, etc. Stylers, like gel, cream, pudding, and lotion based products,
formulate definition and moisture in the hair shafts to ensure the style is kept and hydrated.

While I am no hair expert, I know what products and techniques work well for my hair. I am in love with certain brands, and stay far away from others.

Depending on your hair's thickness, you may not need gels and need cream based, or vice versa. I mostly use cream bases for my twist outs, but gels, for my occasional wash n go's, have been working for my hair a lot lately; it has been way better than when I first started doing natural hairstyles - gel was an enemy to me then lol.

Natural hair is all about finding what works for you, despite what others say works for them. It is a LOT of trial and error, changing up the methods, and being patience with your hair and self. Once you manage to control those three aspects, you will experience amazing results and feel accomplished by knowing what's for you.

Below is a list of my favorite stylers; I totally recommend each one, however always consider price, availability of product in your area, and if it could work for you. Research the products on the brand's website, read articles, and watch YouTube (such a lifesaver sometimes) to truly find out what products will work for your hair type, if you don't know, and if it is something you are willing to purchase.

P.S.
I am implementing affiliate links into some of my posts this year! This is my first one and it's affiliated with Sally Beauty. All links will direct you to the product on their website!
Favorite stylers:
  • Mielle Organics -  So if you read my blog regularly, you already know how I feel about this brand. No words could ever describe my love for them and their products. I haven't had a bad experience or turnout yet - just a trial and error sometimes, which is normal, but every product purchased works incredibly for my hair.
    • Pomegranate & Honey Collection Curl Smoothie
      • All of the products in the Pomegranate & Honey smell wonderful great! This product is similar to the Avocado Milk in texture; it is creamy and melts into the hair. I use this product to enhance my curls in my protective styling.
    • Pomegranate & Honey Collection Curling Custard
      • Like I said earlier, I was never a gel type of girl, but this gel (and two others mentioned below) have been impressive to my hair. I successfully produced a wash n go I loved with this gel, so it's a keeper.
    • Pomegranate & Honey Collection Twisting Souffle
      • This is the one product I wasn't able to get in Dallas, due to selling out at the expo before it even started. But I finally got my hands on it, annd it's amazing. It's formulated especially for twist outs and braid outs, so I definitely needed to try it. The souffle is super thick; the hair needs to be very damp in order to apply it correctly. Once you get the hang of it, the product will treat your hair right.
    • Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk
      • Even though this product is a moisturizer, I also use it as a styler for my hair. With my twist outs, I do the LOC (leave-in, oil, cream) method, so I would use this in the cream stage,
    • Honey and Ginger Styling Gel
      • According to Naturally Curly, this styling gel is made with "more than 70% certified organic ingredients such as honey, ginger, and babassu." None of the gels, mentioned, leave flakes - unless mixed with a cream based product - and doesn't leave a crunchy feeling.
  • Eco Style Black Castor & Flaxseed Oil Styling Gel
    • This is the best Eco Style EVER - don't argue with me lol. I've tried the olive oil one and it didn't seem to hold at all. I'm not sure if the formulas are different or if the oils affect it, but the black castor and flaxseed gel has a better hold when applying to my hair. I would definitely recommend this one if you haven't had great results with the other choices Eco Style offers.
Not Pictured:
  • LottaBody Moisturize Me Curl & Style Milk
    • LottaBody was one of the first brands I tried when I transitioned into being fully natural. This product is a lotion/cream, which defines curls, and comes in a pump bottle for ease. It's super affordable, great at achieving styles, and worked wonders for my hair.
Next to try:
  • TGIN Twist & Define Cream
    • I've only tried the Honey Miracle Mask and I'm pretty much hooked on this brand. I've always heard awesome feedback from others, so I plan on purchasing this define cream once all of my stylers are gone - I have a horrible habit of constantly buying before finishing (all of my product junkies can relate!)

Starting January 26-28 at Sally Beauty, purchase any products, including the ones mentioned, and you can receive 25% off with the link below:
