#MoxieFriday is an interview series showcasing twentysomething and millennial women who live in MOXIE throughout their professional and personal lives. These women show up for themselves, others, and make sure they're impacting the womanhood they see around them + on social media.
This month, I’m featuring a local organization, that I admired and am a part of, who showcases their moxie to young girls in every meeting. Mission 31 is a 501(c)3 mentoring organization with a primary purpose to teach, mentor, and inspire young ladies in grades 6-12 by strengthening their decision-making skills and self-confidence, whose motto is to shape girls into women, one life at a time.
The name, and its mission, is based on the biblical chapter - Proverbs 31, a virtuous woman. The organization strives on teaching the qualities of this woman from verses 10-31, such as “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come,” (v.25) and “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (v. 26).
Self-worth and value, community outreach, and empowerment are its standing values.
As a mentor in the Detroit division, I’ve been proud and honored to help, set and develop a group of 6th grade girls’ perspectives by engaging in real conversations about what’s happening in the world, their personal goals and career choices, and also being a listening ear for them during rough times throughout the day. It’s been a privilege to help other girls in the city and volunteer to make a difference in the city of Detroit.
If you are in the local Detroit or Ypsilanti areas, recruitment for mentors and mentees will start soon. Send your interest into this email or message me!
