#MoxieFriday is an interview series showcasing twentysomething and millennial women who live in MOXIE throughout their professional and personal lives. These women show up for themselves, others, and make sure they’re impacting the womanhood they see around them + on social media.
MISSion 31
This month, I’m featuring a local organization that I admire and am a part of. This organization showcases their moxie to young girls in every meeting. Mission 31 is a 501(c)3 mentoring organization that teaches, mentors and inspires young ladies in grades 6-12. Young girls strengthen their decision-making skills and self-confidence skills. Their motto is to shape girls into women, one life at a time.
The name and mission are based on the biblical chapter – Proverbs 31, a virtuous woman. The organization strives on teaching the qualities of this woman from verses 10-31, such as:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come,” (v.25)
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (v. 26).
Self-worth and value, community outreach, and empowerment are its standing values.
As a mentor in the Detroit division, I’m proud and honored to help and develop a group of 6th-grade girls. Their perspectives change by engaging in real conversations, their personal and career goals, and being a listening ear during rough times. It’s been a privilege to help other girls and volunteer to make a difference in the city of Detroit.
