On Friday, I went to the hair salon to get a silk press + trim. I can't really remember the last time I went to an actual salon for a press because my hair is really not built for that life anymore. Even though I did straightened my hair in August for my birthday, it literally lasted for two hours and wasn't professionally done.
And that's the thing - my hair usually looks great for a couple of hours, depending on weather, personal body heat temperature, and quality of styling/products. So all of these factors had me a little worried that I would waste money to just have clipped ends.
But y'all, I am SUPER IMPRESSED with the way my hair came out and it lasted for longer than Friday!
The BEST part of the whole experience was the feedback I got on my hair. The hairstylist, Jackie, stated during the washing process my hair did not feel dry - shout number one! Proceed to blow-drying, there was literally no breakage or hair on the comb attachment - shout number two! She also stated my hair felt super hydrated, and not to mention this is the LONGEST length my hair has ever been, so happy is a big understatement.
Hair health was never a priority for me honestly until I went natural almost four years ago. I always wanted long, straight hair but didn't know the steps to take or how to even care for it. I'm so glad you don't always receive what you want until you are ready for it!
Since becoming natural, I try to make sure I do more than the minimum to treat my hair well at home. I've incorporated more methods this past year. Through my faithful and bomb product brands (Mielle Organics, Aussie, Urban Hydration, and now Adwoa Beauty), consistency in deep conditioning and low manipulation styles, straightening my hair was an absolute BREEZE.
Overall, I'm filled with absolute joy because there's a physical + literal difference with my hair (that I couldn't see) and happy these brands actually do what they claim to do.
Going natural is easily one of the best decisions I ever made. Let me know if you want to know more about my hair journey or need advice!
Lastly, here'e a mini photoshoot that took place because of it (campus photoshoot was postponed, due to cold and snow flurries in April!)
