This week, I have been in a rough place – mentally + emotionally. Things, I literally cannot control, have been weighing on my heart. In light of cheering up, I googled inspirational quotes from powerful + empowering African American women. I found one quote from Maya Angelou stood out to me.
Our responsibility increases as we age. Every situation we encounter requires maturity, patience + time. Therefore if we do not like where we are, we have the right to change it. But if you can’t change it, here are some helpful ways I found to change your attitude + mindset.
Let It Go!
Once a problem overtakes your state of being, release it! Do whatever it takes to eliminate the stress. Pray, write poetry, vent to a loved one, music or anything can help. Find what works for YOU! You cannot solve the problem overwhelmed.
Find Alternatives
Did you calm down? Good. Now the first step of changing your attitude + mindset can start. Begin by jotting ideas to redirect how you want to obtain that end goal. For example, my situation is trying getting a car. Even though things are not going in my favor, I started to make a list of ways to help get it, such as work like crazy + keep an eye out on car sales.
Alternatives will relieve stress to help change your attitude to think more positively than negatively. No, all the answers will come automatically. Make the list something you work on + look at frequently; this will help you stay on track.
Make It Work
After making the list, accomplishing and working towards that goal is the focus. Use resources around you, ask for help, research the situation + find other ideas. You have to try to make it better. No one else will if you will do.
Everything is not going to work out the first time around. So what are you going to do to change your attitude, if you can’t change your situation?
