Today starts my 7-day cruise vacation! This will be my first time traveling outside of the U.S. - and no, Canada doesn't count because it's around the corner from us here - and first cruise, so I'm excited to see what's in store.
Family and friends know I am a meticulous, early, and heavy packer, like crazy bag lady packer. I tend to start packing 2-4 weeks before to make sure I have everything I need and are in order. But this time around, it's been the complete opposite. I finished packing two days before leaving and still had errands like crazy the day before.
For this trip, I only shopped for essentials, like toiletries and flip flops. I surprisingly had enough clothes I liked to not buy new ones, which somewhat sucked lol. Below, I'm going to talk about how I pack my essentials to ensure everything is in place, so expect to see multiple bags and components - remember bag lady.
"Walk in purpose; Work in purpose."
Last week, my friend randomly messaged me about purpose and asked if I knew mines. I replied with what I believed to be my purpose and uncertainty. As if it wasn't already random, it made me think after while maybe I do know my purpose more than I realize. And that's only because of the struggle it's been trying, feeling like I am not good enough, doing enough, and not seeing the "glitz and glamour" per say. But that is not the case!
When I say "glitz and glamour," I don't mean fame or status; I'm referring to the community building and resonating responses being received from these blog posts I write. But even without it, my purpose still fuels what I do, regardless of the external satisfaction.
Happy Black History Month and Wakanda Day!
(Had to get that out for the sake of it lol.)
This month, we're featuring Amarrah Smith as our #MoxieFriday woman. I've had the pleasure of working with her during my internship with The Bee Agency. She is a visionary, content developer + strategist, music enthusiast, community leader, and dynamic communicator. Keep reading to learn more about Amarrah!
1. Tell us about yourself and your brand.
My name is Amarrah Smith and I am a Creative Content Writer. My brand is purposed to illustrate the stories of avant-gardists and dreamers through literary pieces that market their brands. A depiction of myself, I strive to create comfortable, personable experiences that allow these game-changers to peel back the layers, revealing their true forms to better cultivate new lanes and waves.
2. So you’re a content writer, what does that exactly mean and entail?
My goal, essentially, is to cultivate a new meaning to what it is to be a content writer. Content writers basically create the written material that represents a brand. This can include anything from editorial write-ups to bios to a social media caption. As a content writer, my goal is to use my love for literature to create the stories and characters in the brands that I represent. This means that I get to know each individual. I listen intently when they speak, feel their vibes and energy, and from that, I tell the stories that their hearts speak.
3. Describe your writing process, from concept to publishing. How do you stay motivated or find inspiration?
This is the fun part [laughs]. I’m a journalist before anything so my process can be a bit invasive. I require recorded phone or in-person consultations with all of my clients. For 30 minutes to an hour, we just chat. I ask questions that dig deep below the surface. During this process, I’m trying to get to the ‘Why’. I want to truly understand your purpose because that’s where the passion and drive lies. After the consultation, I use our conversations to tell stories through various avenues of requested marketing content. It’s truly a joy and gift to be able to learn the hearts and the stories of others. It’s therapeutic and it drives me to keep going. I am blessed to have the ability to write and that gift is so much bigger than me.
4. How would you describe your writing style?
That’s a good question. I’d say very intentional. When I was younger, I was always enamored with books. Since 2 years old, I’d choose books over people [laughs]. What got me every time was how I could read a book and instantly be transported to any time, any place in the world. That’s always been such a beautiful feeling to me. My writing style is intentional because my intent is to create that feeling for anyone who reads my words.
This weekend emotionally tried, motivated, and compelled me to share a part of my sacred processing - an excerpt from my journal. As hard as it is to post something this, I am learning not bottle up every single problem by realizing the realities of my circumstances and using my voice to speak my truth; this excerpt shows the areas where growth is still taking effect in my life and how far I've come along.
This is a pep, hype talk to encourage you and I that life isn't defeating you at every turn. Even if we may think so, do what's needed to learn what's going on and IMPROVE! That's the hardest part, but beneficial in the end.
Take what you need, and let it work within to create exactly who you are supposed to be in your journey!
"what’s for you will not pass you.
Now, confirm with these affirmations:
Let this set your mood for the week; I'm rooting for you!
